When we started work on this book our intention was to produce a revised and updated version of Ivan Waddington’s book, Sport, Health and Drugs. That book had been published in 2000 and, given that the world of drugs in sport is a rapidly changing one, it was certainly due for a revision. However in the course of writing this book, it has changed into something rather different. Readers of Sport, Health and Drugs may recall that it was divided into two related, but rather different, sections. The first section consisted of four chapters which examined different aspects of the relationship between sport and health, while the second part.
