In the literature, number of hardware and software approaches are proposed to optimize the usage of the energy in the datacenter. Dynamic power management (DPM), Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS), thread motion, Asymmetric cores, virtualization, migration, consolidation, scheduling etc. are approaches which are used to optimize the usage of energy consumption. The goal of this paper is to provide an overview of these techniques to optimize the energy consumption. | ISSN:2249-5789 Neha Garg et al, International Journal of Computer Science & Communication Networks,Vol 7(3),66-69 Energy Aware Hardware and Software Approaches in Cloud Environment Neha Garg Department of Computer Science and Engineering, SLIET, Longowal Damanpreet Singh Department of Computer Science and Engineering, SLIET, Longowal Major Singh Goraya Department of Computer Science and Engineering, SLIET, Longowal garg.neha28892@gmail.com damanpreetsingh@sliet.ac.in mjrsingh@yahoo.com Abstract Cloud computing is an environment that provide various services such as hardware and software on pay per use basis through virtualization technology word-widely. To provide enormous amount of services to the cloud consumers, large sized datacenters are deployed. Datacenter consumes enormous amount of energy to fulfill the cloud consumers’ demands. High energy consumption not only increases the electrical bills but also has strong environmental footprints. Therefore, energy efficiency in the cloud environment is one of the major issue. Keywords: Dynamic power management (DPM), Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS), virtualization, migration, scheduling 1. Introduction Cloud computing is a model fo r enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable co mputing resources (e.g. applications, networks, servers, services, and storage) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with min imal management effort or service provider interaction [1].
