We have proven stability of the methods and shown that they guarantee asymptotic convergence of the tracking errors to zero as well as boundedness of all the signals and parameter errors regardless of any initialization constraints. Both methods allow for the inclusion of previous knowledge or expertise in form of linguistics regarding what the control input should be in the direct case or what the plant dynamics are in the indirect case. We show that with or without such knowledge the stability and tracking properties of the controllers hold and present two simulations for direct adaptive control that illustrate the method.
