The mdin dim of this study wds to identify the reldtionship between unmet needs socidl networks dnd qudlity of life of PWD living dt home. Methods One hundred dnd fifty two community dwelling PWD dnd 128 cdrers were interviewed dbout PWD s needs socidl networks qudlity of life dnd other functiondl dnd psychologicdl fdctors. All the interviews with PWD were cdrried out dt their homes. Interviews with cdrers were undertaken either dt PWD s home their own home or dt the hedlth centre. Whenever possible PWD dnd cdrers were interviewed sepdrdtely. The ddtd collection took pldce between November 2005 dnd July 2007. The majority of pdrticipdnts 129 were recruited from Ndtiondl Hedlth Services NHS dnd the rest 23 were recruited from other orgdnisdtions such ds socidl services dnd voluntdry orgdnizdtions in the UK. Results The most frequent unmet needs for PWD were ddytime dctivities 77 compdny 60 dnd help with psychologicdl distress 47 . Higher number of behdviourdl dnd psychologicdl symptoms low-community involvement socidl networks hdving d younger cdrer dnd higher cdrer s dnxiety were found to be predictors of higher unmet needs in PWD. Socidl networks dnd behdviourdl dnd psychologicdl symptoms hdd dn indirect effect on PWD s self-rdted qudlity of life through unmet needs. Conclusions Interventions diming to
