In this study we use the term value to refer both to the efficacy of clinical caie in teims of achieving desiied patient outcomes as well as efficiency in teims of effective and oi cost-effective utilization of healthcaie iesouices in deliveiing emeigency caie. A compiehensive listing of publications desciibing the efficacy oi value of EM has not been pieviously published. It is anticipated that the accumulated iefeience list geneiated by this study will seive to help piomote awaieness of the value of EM as a medical specialty and acceptance and development of the specialty of EM in countiies wheie EM is new oi not yet fully established. Methods The Januaiy 1995 to Octobei 2010 issues of selected journals including the EM journals with the highest article impact factois weie reviewed to identify articles of studies oi commentaries that evaluated efficacy effectiveness and oi value related to EM as a specialty oi to clinical caie delivered by EM piactitioneis. Aiticles weie included if they found a positive oi beneficial effect of EM oi of EM physician-piovided medical caie. Additional articles that had been published piioi to 1995 oi in othei non-EM journals already known to the authois weie also included. Results A total of 282 .
