Introduction Acrisols sandy soils are important agricultural soils in Tay Ninh Province and are used for rice-based cropping systems which have an upland crop . maize phase. Impeded drainage leading to waterlogging and ponding of water was a common problem. Local farmer practice in Tay Ninh Province for maize production involves a blanket application of N applied as ammonium sulfate and P as single superphosphate in the absence of any soil test information. Coconut ash is also added as a nutrient source mainly K and is considered to improve soil porosity. The aim of this field study was to undertake a demonstration field experiment on an Acrisol in Tay Ninh Province. Treatments were based on a SCAMP assessment of the soil and compared with a treatment comprising local farmer practice. 2. Materials and Methods . Location The field experiment was carried out at Phuoc Dong Commune Go Dau District Tay Ninh Province southern Vietnam. .
