The task force must also enlist the aid of scholars who focus their research on areas as diverse as organizational psychology organizational theory communication and business structure. In addition the task force must include leaders from the health insurance industry as well as from the pharmaceutical and device industries in order to bring together a group of highly skilled managers and business leaders who deal with academic medical centers from the outside on a daily basis. Because of its size it should consist of a steering committee and individual subcommittees each charged with overseeing specific elements of the overall mission. Enhance the Public s Recognition of the Healthcare Workforce Crisis The general public must be made aware of the crisis in the healthcare workforce. Efforts by the Canadian Medical Association to inform the public of the plight of Canada s healthcare workforce might serve as a model for efforts in the United States.
