The International Agency for Research on Cancer was established by a resolution of the 18th World Health Assembly in 1965 with a defined mission to conduct and promote international collaboration in cancer research with the objective of improving health through a reduction in the incidence of and mortality from cancer throughout the world. The IARC Statutes specify the role of the Agency in planning, promoting and conducting research in all phases of the causation, treatment and prevention of cancer; in the collection and dissemination of information on the epidemiology of cancer, on cancer research and on the prevention and causation of cancer throughout the world; studies on the natural history of cancer; and education and training of personnel.
