New genomic technologies are changing the way we analyze diseases from one gene and one patient at a time, to population-wide analysis of entire genomes. These evolving tools are transforming how we do genetics and genomics, and have the potential to dramatically impact our understanding of a broad spectrum of diseases. While Canada has made significant investments in health genomics, the vast majority of these efforts have been focused on adult diseases. The time has come to deploy Canada’s considerable health genomics capacity to address the issues associated with disease in children and to identify preventive interventions aimed at avoiding/delaying.
