Emerging evidence shows an association between periodontal infection and adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as premature delivery and low birth weight. While some studies have shown that interventions to treat periodontal disease will improve pregnancy outcomes, conclusive clinical interventional trials are not yet available to confirm the preliminary results.
