Each of the four agencies appointed representatives to the Working Group, which was formally convened with an initial meeting on May 5, 2009. As the first phase of preparing a report to Congress, the Working Group has developed a set of recommendations for proposed voluntary nutrition principles to guide industry self-regulatory efforts to improve the nutritional profile of foods that are most heavily marketed to children. The recommendations set forth below include the proposed nutrition principles. They also include proposed definitions of advertising, promotion, and other marketing activities targeting children and adolescents to which the nutrition principles would apply.
