NCI’s Division of Cancer Prevention set out 7 years ago to create a strong, investigator-driven network to conduct translational research to identify tests for early cancer and cancer risk. In 2000, the Early Detec- tion Research Network (EDRN) became a fully funded group of 28 grantees focused on the overarching goal of creating validated biomarkers ready for large-scale clinical testing. Today, EDRN is a nationwide, interdisciplinary group of established partnerships among scores of institutions and hundreds of individuals working to advance the science for public benefit. .
