Frataxin, a conserved mitochondrial protein implicated in cellular iron homeostasis, has been involved as the iron chaperone that delivers iron for the Fe–S cluster and heme biosynthesis. However, its role in iron metabo-lism remains unclear, especially in photosynthetic organisms.
