The patient journey from presentation to the general practitioner (GP), referral for investigation, through to diagnosis and specialist referral is a multistep process. The effective management of patients with oesophageal and gastric cancer requires a multidisciplinary approach. The investigation and management of each new patient requires access to a multidisciplinary team consisting of surgeons, gastroenterologists, endoscopists, oncologists, nurses, dietitians, radiologists, pathologists, and anaesthetists. Through this multidisciplinary team the patient should closely interact with a wider team of palliative care specialists and general practitioners. Patients should have access to patient support groups and adequate information. This guideline will be of interest to.
