Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium is a major disease burden globally. In 2006 it was estimated that there was million incident cases, and among these million cases were HIV-positive. The HIV prevalence in TB patients is less than 1% in the Western Pacific but 22% in Africa, however, in countries with the highest HIV prevalence; more than 75% of cases of TB are HIV-associated. Southern Africa has the highest prevalence of HIV infection and had the highest incidence of TB before the HIV/AIDS era (Badri et al, 2002; WHO, 2008)
