THE following book was written to supply a need felt by the author in giving a course of lectures on Applied Electrochemistry in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. There has been no work in English covering this whole field, and students had either to rely on notes or refer to the sources from which this book is compiled. Neither of these methods of study is satisfactory, for notes cannot be well taken in a subject where illustrations are as important as they are here ; and in going to the original sources too much time is required to sift out the essential part.
