The issue of consent is also addressed in Complaint 16 – Opt Out from “Europe-v-Facebook”. This complaint covers a number of areas relating to the set up of a new Facebook account. The first issue raised by the complainant is that there is no specific consent when signing up to Facebook. The complainant argued that Facebook collects a range of data (import of email addresses, education information, photograph, etc.) from the new user before that user is provided with an opportunity to change his security settings and that a link to privacy information is only provided.
