Lewis (2002:xi) has argued that although management of projects has been going on for thousands of years, the practice has been widely recognized as a discipline in its own right for only about ten years. A very short history indeed! Azzopardi (2009) confirms this view as discussed presently. Azzopardi argues that project management has been practised for thousands of years, dating back to the Egyptian epoch, but it was in the mid 1950s that the organisations commenced formal project management tools. The origins of project management are traced in two different problems of planning and control in projects.
