This book reviews the external affairs of the European Union (EU) from a very distinct perspective. Different from existing literature on the EU’s international role, we seek to find moral and ethical arguments and justifications on which the Union ought to base its global policies. We ask, in other words, what ethical foundations might there be for developing a larger role for the EU in regional politics and global governance or, conversely, what moral factors could potentially limit the scope of the EU’s external ambitions?.
