Ninety percent of the agricultural labour is done by women in Mozambique, yet they are vulnerable to food insecurity. The main contributing factors are limited access to education, especially in rural and peri-urban areas, and limited access to the labour market. As a result, they cannot ensure adequate nutritional intake for themselves and their families. Health and Environment According to a recent WHO report , roughly of all deaths in Mozambique can be attributed to inadequate water, sanitation and hygiene practices. In 2006, only 44% of the population had access to an improved water source (71% coverage in urban areas and only 26% in rural areas) and 36%.
