Every two years, the WHO convenes an Expert Committee on Selection and Use of Essential Medicines to review state- of-the-art evidence on the efficacy, safety, and cost effectiveness of medicines in order to update the WHO Model Lists of Essential Medicines (WHO EML) for adults and children.
