More recently, the definition of this sector has needed to reflect the drive to reduce CO2 equivalent emissions from the wider economy. The definition in this report has therefore been extended to cover a range of rapidly growing renewable energy technologies (hydro, wave and tidal power, solar/ photovoltaic, geothermal, wind and biomass), as well as a number of other emerging low carbon products and activities such as reduced emissions from within the transport and construction sectors, nuclear energy, energy management, carbon capture and storage and carbon finance. Many of these goods and services are not carbon neutral but they do offer lower carbon alternatives or potential alternatives to the more traditional fossil fuel equivalents. .
