Three novel CXC chemokines were identified in common carp (Cyprinus carpioL.) through homology cloning. Phy-logenetic analyses show that one of the three CXC chemo-kines is an unambiguous orthologue ofCXCL14,whereas both others are orthologues ofCXCL12,and were named CXCL12aandCXCL12b. Percentages of amino acid iden-tity between each of these carp chemokines and their human and mouse orthologues are markedly higher than those reported previously for other carp CXC chemokines, sug-gestive of involvement invital processes, whichhave allowed for relatively few structural changes. .
