To identify all of theO-methyltransferase genes involved in isoquinolinealkaloidbiosynthesis inCoptis japonicacells,we sequenced 1014 cDNAclones isolated from high-alkaloid-producing cultured cells ofC. found all three reported O-methyltransferases and an O-methyltransferase-likecDNAclone (CJEST64).This cDNA was quite similar toS-adenosyl-L-methionine:coclaurine 6-O-methyltransferase and S-adenosyl-L-methionine:iso-flavone 7-O-methyltransferase.
