The organisation and structure of the independent design profession in different countries is the focus of this report. The countries covered are: UK, France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, USA and China. Design professions principally refer to industrial/product design, graphics, corporate identity, packaging and interiors. Software and fashion design are excluded. One of the challenges of carrying out international comparisons is the diverse nature and scope of design professionals included in the statistics and reports available, which hinders the making of direct comparisons between countries.
