It is very important that students have the opportunity to practise new mathematics and to develop their understanding by applying new ideas and skills to new problems and new contexts. The main source of exercises for consolidation and practice is the text book. It is important to check that the examples in the exercises are graded from easy to difficult and that students don’t start with the hardest examples. It is also important to ensure that what is being practised is actually the topic that has been covered and not new content or a new skill which has not been taught before.
