The executive director feels a high level of board support and is therefore motivated at work. For example, one board said that the board knows that the executive director’s monthly report will focus board discussions on what the executive director needs from the board. The board members in that particular organization believe that, if the executive director brings them a task, then the board must be adding value to the organization and so they do it. Each party has a higher comfort level in providing guidance to the other when appropriate and, as one participant explained, the parties like each.
