Approximately18% of the global cattle population is from SAP. Out of this, the largest share is from India, which has about 10% of the world’s population by itself. In Asia, about 90% of the contribution of the livestock sector is from small holders and this proportion is pretty consistent across countries. The respective agriculture policies of the countries show a serious commitment of governments to improve the general economy through the livestock sector, with particular support to smallholders. Studies have shown that having multiple farming objectives, including meeting the need for more milk, ensuring adaptability to local feed.
