For centuries, golf was considered a game in which the royal, elite, and privileged participated in a leisurely fashion (or so they thought). Then came advances in golf course design and golf equipment, which increased the demands for physical skill and brought out the likes of Snead, Hogan, Player, Palmer, and Nicklaus. These were probably the first signs that golf had changed from more of a game to a sport, but it wasn’t until this past decade that Tiger Woods’s influence and domination in professional golf made it clear that fitness, mental focus, nutrition, performance, and golf health are fundamental to playing the sport to the best of one’s.
