In Alberta, the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA) and associated regulations are the principal legislation (delivery tool) governing the environmental aspects of pulp and paper mill developments. Section 14(4) of the EPEA establishes the authority to develop guidelines and objectives to meet goals and purposes to which environmental protection efforts are directed.
