WEEK 26 – PERIOD 76 PD: _ TD:_ UNIT 12: MUSIC WRITING OBJECTIVES 1. Educational aim: Students should show their politeness toward other people when writing a friendly letter or a postcard. 2. Knowledge General knowledge: Students learn about the organization of the content on a postcard. Language: Adjectives and verb forms offer used in a postcard to a friend or a relative. 3. Skills: Writing a postcard to friend or a relative to tell about a vacation. METHOD: Integrated, mainly communicative TEACHING AIDS: Some postcards with pictures of scenic spots or historical places. PROCEDURE Teacher’s Activities Student’s Activities Warm-up (4 mn) Teacher shows a few postcards and aska questions: 1) What do you call these? 2) What do you use postcards for? 3) What do you often write on a postcard? Pre-writing (8 mn) T: Work with partner. Read the postcards in the textbook and study its content and organization. (The organization of a letter on a postcard may vary. However, the order presented here is the usual one.) Teacher walks around the class and offers help when necessary. Then teacher selects a few students to give the answers. Students’ answers: 1) They’re postcards. 2) We often send postcards to our friends and relatives when we’re on vacation. 3) We write about the place we visit and about what we do during the trip. Students sit in pair, read the postcard printed in the textbook, and do task a) Answers: 1. b. ( Salutation) Dear Mary, 2. (Body) c. ( Your feeling) We are having a wonderful time here in Viet Nam. f. ( The weather) The weather is wonderful. While-writing (18 mn) Teacher assigns task: Each student writes a postcard to a(n) (imaginary) foreign pen pal telling him/her about your recent vacation. Teacher and students discuss and elicit some language notes. Suggested letter on a postcard: Dear Jane, We’re enjoying our stay here in Sa Pa. The weather is cool and pleasant. Our hotel is on a hill with a beautiful view of a green village. Two days ago, we visited an ethnic village and talked with some local residents. People here are hospitable and friendly. We’re going shopping today to buy some local products. Love, An Post-reading (13 mn) Teacher gives suggestions and corrections. 1. Teacher assigns homework., Prepare languae focus 2. 3. Comments (2 mn) Students read one another’s letters.
