Hydrogels composed of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), polyethylenglycol (PEG) and kappacarrageenan (KC) were prepared by radiation crosslinking method. The equilibrium water absorption of hydrogel PVP/KC (A) and PVP/PEG/KC (B) were 45 and 85 g(H2O)/g dried gel, respectively. The n values of the equation Mt /M = ktn were determined to be of for hiđrogel A and for hydrogel B. The water transport mechanism follows the fickian diffusion for hydrogel A, while relaxation diffusion is dominated for hydrogel B. The water vaporization of hiđrogels was also investigated.
