(BQ) Bourke’s book has less to say about pain itself than another book I read, more than a decade ago: Marni Jackson’s Pain: The Fifth Vital Sign, which I remember with gratitude because it helped me deal with a few days of debilitating pain I was suffering in which painkillers were useless.
