Abstract: This paper presents the findings from the interviews with teachers and students in some high schools in the northern mountainous provinces in Vietnam regarding the limitations and challenges in Geometry teaching and learning practice. The research also reveals the outcome of the application of some softwares to support the Geometry teaching for high school ethnic minority students in the mountainous northern region Vietnam. Keywords: Students, information technology, teaching Geometry, high school, northern mountains. 1. INTRODUCTION The mountainous region in the Northern Vietnam consists of 14 provinces. This territory has a natural area of about km2 ( of the country’s total area), with 32 ethnic groups that totalize about million people, who represent 13% of the total population. The provinces in the Northern Vietnam naturally have harsh natural conditions, cultural diversity and rich identity. There are a large number of ethnic minority teachers and students in mountainous areas of northern Vietnam (table 1). It is empirically stated that the majority of the students belonging to these groups in the mountainous areas are “afraid” of geometry [1], [2] therefore it’s crucial to find a solution to this situation. In the scope of this research, the researchers aim at these following objectives: i) To detect and clarify the causes of the difficulties that are usually met by high school ethnic minority students in the northern mountainous regions in learning geometry. ii) To effectively apply information technology in teaching geometry to high
