Investigating the impact of varying defacto hello interval time on the performance of OLSR routing protocol in manets

The Optimized Link State routing (OLSR) is a table-driven pro-active protocol which uses the link-state scheme in an optimized manner to distribute topology information. As per IETF draft defacto values of Hello Interval are not suitable for OLSR routing protocol. In this paper, by varying the defacto values of Hello Interval time, how the performance is varied is analyzed using OPNET Simulator . | ISSN:2249-5789 Vikkurty Sireesha et al, International Journal of Computer Science & Communication Networks,Vol 6(6),222-226 Investigating the Impact of Varying Defacto Hello Interval Time on the Performance of OLSR Routing Protocol in MANETS Vikkurty Sireesha#1, Dr. Shetty, *2 #1 Research scholar, Computer Science & Systems Engineering, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, ., India *2 Professor, Computer Science & Systems Engineering, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, ., India Abstract MANETS have gained considerable significance in research in the recent years. A MANET is a group of wireless nodes that can dynamically form a network to communicate information without using any preexisting fixed network infrastructure. The dynamic change of topology in MANETS causes link failures and route failures. Hence routing is considered to be a challenging issue in MANETs. Routing Protocols in MANETS MANETs Routing protocols [1][2][4] can be classified into • • • Proactive routing protocols Reactive routing protocols and Hybrid routing protocols Key words: MANET, OLSR, Hello Interval Time. 1. Introduction A MANET [1][2][3] is a kind of infrastructure-less network which changes locations and configures itself instantaneously. Nodes act as routers in forwarding packets for each other and their mobility causes frequent route changes. Therefore routing in MANETS is considered to be a trivial task and has gained more importance due to dynamic nature of MANETs.
