Untreated wastewater from slaughterhouses has been contributing to the contamination of Day River due to its high concentration of COD, BOD, total nitrate (TN) and total phosphate (TP). Centralized wastewater treatment is not a good option at present due to lack of wastewater conveyance infrastructure and finance.
