Mèo Vạc là một huyện miền núi phía bắc Việt Nam thuộc tỉnh Hà Giang có tổng diện tích là 57,4km2 , nằm trong tọa độ từ 23O 02’ đến 23O 19’ vĩ độ Bắc và 105O 12’ đến 105O 24’ kinh độ Đông. Like other heritages, geoheritages are nonrenewable, that’swhy they need to be preserved, managed and exploited rationally to ensue the sustainable development. The study on geological and geotechnical characteristics of the Southeast Meo Vac where many geoheritages are presented in order to find out the relationship beetwen the geotechnical characteristics of the rocks and soils and the formation, preservation and development of geoheritages. There are 3 groupss of rocks, . solid rocks, cohesion and cohesionless soils. Each group is related to certain typical heritage. The diversity of types of stone forests is the results of: i) rock properties, ii) distribution and the density of faults and fractures within rocks; and iii) the diversity of stratigraphy and composition. The clarification of the relationship between geotechnical characteristics with types of geoheritages will provide benifits in the proposing suitable engineering and non-engineering measures in the protection of the heritages from natural and manmade hazards for sustainable development.
