Carbapenemase producing carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriacea were almost non-existent till 1990s but nowadays they are routinely encountered in hospitals. KPC producing Klebsiella pneumoniae were the first to develop and occur commonly. Lately NDM producing Enterobacteriaceae have emerged.
