Ladakh short agricultural season of 6-7 months in the lap of Himalayas and its production was high and enough to feed the entire population with traditional techniques to suit the local climatic conditions along with strong social structure to support the agricultural system. Today it faces many climatic challenges in more ways than one such as receding glacial snow, unusual rainfall, floods, changing weather patterns resulting infiltration of new pests and consequently and significantly changed the lifestyle of high altitude cold arid Ladakh.
