Okra or lady's finger, (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) commonly known as bhindi in India is the most popular vegetable of the family malvaceae, is an important vegetable of the tropical and subtropical region. It is valued for its medicinal properties to cure renal colic, leucorrhoea, chronic dysentery and goitre due to high iodine content in fruits. In okra, a large number of varieties have been developed but substantial increase in productivity could not be realized.
