India is the world’s largest producer as well as consumer of blackgram. It produces about to million tonnes of blackgram annually from about million hectares area, with an average productivity of 500 kg per hectares. In Karnataka, blackgram occupies an area of lakh ha with the production of lakh tones and productivity of 507 kg/ ha.
