Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is relatively ubiquitous and the cause of community acquired colonization and infections as well as endemic and epidemic nosocomial colonization and infections. Early detection of MRSA and formulation of an effective antibiotic policy, along with infection control in tertiary care hospitals is of paramount importance from an epidemiological viewpoint.
