Among the various fungal diseases affecting coconut palm, basal stem rot (BSR) or wilt or root rot caused by Ganoderma spp. viz., G. lucidum, G. applanatum G. boninense, etc., is the most destructive especially in the lighter soils of Andhra Pradesh.
