Phosphorous and phosphate solubilising bacteria and their role in plant nutrition

Phosphorous (P), an essential nutrient element is the second most important element after nitrogen. It is unavailable to plants because in the soil it is mostly present in the fixed form. Soil bacteria having the phosphate solubilizing capacity are called as Phosphate Solubilising Bacteria (PSB). They convert the insoluble phosphate into soluble form through the production of organic acids and make it available for plant uptake and nutrition. They are also useful as biofertilizers as they belong to the plant growth promoting Rhizobacteria. This review is focused on the role of ‘P’ and ‘PSB’ in plant nutrition and sustainable agriculture. | Phosphorous and phosphate solubilising bacteria and their role in plant nutrition
