Rice is an important staple food crops for more than half of the world’s population. Rice (Oryza sativa) productivity is adversely impacted by numerous biotic and abiotic factors. An approximate 50% of the global rice production is hampered annually due to the damage caused by biotic factors, out of which ~20% is due to the attack of insect pests. Insect pests are a major biotic constraint on rice production. Transgenic approach has been explored to confer insect pest resistance to rice plants. In this paper, we review the progress that has been made in last years insect resistant transgenic rice research. | Recent advances in transgenic rice research technology
