Employees’ preferred modes of conflict management in automobile and information technology (IT) industries in Chennai

Professor Madras School of Social Work Chennai Tamilnadu India ABSTRACT The presence of more positive emotional experience in an organization may be viewed as goal congruence to some extent. However it is cautioned by the interactionist view of conflict theory that harmonious peaceful tranquil and cooperative groups may be prone to be static apathetic and nonresponsive to the needs for change and innovation. The presence of too much of negative emotions in the organization may be a clear sign that the goals of the organization are deviating from the target. It indicates increased levels of conflicts in the organization. This study was carried out on Emotional Intelligence and Conflict management among the employees of automobile and Information Technology IT industries in Chennai. Purposive sampling method was used for data collection and 300 samples were collected. The data relating to automobile and IT employees preferred modes for conflict management were analyzed. The findings showed that among the age group employees between 30-35 years significantly differed with employees in age groups of 25-30 years and above 35 years in their preferred modes of conflict management. Among the junior middle and senior management the middle management employees preferred collaborative mode. Between the automobile and IT industries the automobile industry showed the preference for competing mode. .
