The association between tuberculosis and HIV presents an immediate and grave public health and socioeconomic threat, particularly in the developing world. The interaction of TB with HIV is two-folded, with TB being the leading cause of death among HIV infected, and HIV infection being the most potent risk factor for a latent TB infection to convert to active disease. The study was conducted on patients diagnosed with pulmonary and extra pulmonary tuberculosis, who were admitted in the wards of National Institute of Tuberculosis & Respiratory diseases (NITRD), New Delhi. 397 Patients were enrolled for the study after informed consent from July 2009 to March 2011. |
