As plants have substances of medicinal values, they are used to treat number of diseases since long time. They had minimal or less side effect on human beings. In the present study, the antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of the flower extract of Nerium oleander was evaluated as a remedy for pathogenic diseases. The screening of various phytochemicals was conducted using a standard procedure using different solvents. Antimicrobial activity was evaluated by the disc diffusion method. Antioxidant activity determination was carried out using DPPH free radical scavenging assay and reducing power assay. The phytochemical screening led to the detection of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, carbohydrates and phenols. |
