Alkaline keratinolytic protease producing Bacillus species was screened out from soil sample and characterized by studying morphological, cultural and biochemical properties. It was identified by using Burgey‟s manual of determinative bacteriology, identification flow charts as Bacillus alcalophilus. The isolate was employed for the production of alkaline protease by using production medium consisting of glucose and casein as carbon and nitrogen sources at pH (Rao and Narasu, 2007). The isolate was also checked for its protease production by using feathers as sole source of carbon and nitrogen and produced significant amount of alkaline keratinolytic protease from feathers. |
