Fruit crops, mostly perennial, are highly heterozygous with a complex genetic nature and several cross-breeding barriers. Among the various evolutionary mechanisms of floral behavior reported in fruit crops, dichogamy is one of the most important mechanisms with the most prevalent also. Dichogamy refers to the maturation of sex organs at different times in plants. It is mainly divided into two main types; protoandry and protogyny.
